Constantly flitting between indoors and out, warm and cold, day and night. Pack items that can be worn in different combinations and easily be taken off whilst out and about. A T-shirt, a shirt, a jumper, a jacket and a waterproof.
If it gets very cold you’ll be able to layer up. If it’s mild a jumper will do. If it’s warmer than expected you can stop at a T-shirt. But maybe you’re the chilly type?
If you head to the mountains don’t forget to pack warm things. A pair of jeans, a cashmere crewneck, a wool turtleneck must all make the cut as well as long socks over the calf.
Don’t forget those handsome calf-leather boots and a quilted parka tailored in a technical fabric. You’ll be pleased you didn’t.
Feel the sun for a change. Show your arms, get your legs out, just keep your thighs to yourself (bermuda shorts = above the knee). Cotton by day, and chinos in the evening with a light knit and a softly tailored unlined jacket.
If a shirt is called for, make it a stripe or a check - just never short sleeved. Espadrilles over flip-flops. Or even better, a pair of white canvas tennis shoes or beige derbies (in suede!).
